Winter to Spring

Although there’s still a definite nip in the air, we’re almost through winter, so at last we can start taking advantage of the evenings drawing out to hop on our four-legged friends more frequently than many of us have been able to do during the darker months. Spring is a crucial point in the year to closely manage the balance of dietary energy from feed and forage (hay and haylage) as workloads increase, to ensure your horses come through the last part of the winter in great condition. So, if you’ll be making full use of the lighter evenings and riding much more, or if your horse is already well into fittening work ready for the 2025 Event season, you may need a step up in energy to account for an increased workload. Using one of our quality Norfolk-grown EH Haylage products will help ensure a steady energy intake, naturally sourced from quality fibre. Equally, if your horses have wintered well on EH Haylage and you’re expecting an abundance of grass, or if your horse feels the joys of spring when the grass comes in, now may be the ideal time to consider moving to a lower energy haylage. Moving from EH Original to EH High Fibre or EH Lite may be good options, particularly if your horse or pony is prone to weight gain and associated health issues such as laminitis.
